There’s been a lot of news swimming around concerning Final Fantasy XIV, the MMO successor to Final Fantasy XI that was announced at E3. This is news I’ve looked at, but have absolutely zero intention of talking about. I’m not going to mention the races, the classes, the screenshots, any of that rubbish. At least, not right now.
I’ve come to the conclusion that Final Fantasy XIV should not be talked about until Final Fantasy XIII is released. To me, the idea of announcing a sequel to a game that isn’t even out yet is absolutely ludicrous. Square Enix loves to churn out Final Fantasy games at an insane rate, but the announcement of XIV was almost a self-parody. It’s no wonder Square Enix takes six years to make a game when it keeps getting sidetracked by other projects.
It’s not even like Final Fantasy XIII is one game. It’s just one chapter in the Final Fantasy Nobula Crystallis Kukaracha Novella Texas BBQ Pringles Yo Gabba Gabba series that was announced like, six years ago. Three games announced over half a decade ago, not one of them released, and we’re talking about the next project? Oh no, I’m not falling into that trap.
Square Enix, stop filling your plate and give people time to anticipate something before announcing the next thing. Oh, and stop publishing utter crap like Infinite Undiscovery in between. Note also that this is just my personal opinion and doesn’t reflect the opinions of the rest of the Dtoid staff, who are far less bitter and cynical than I am.
