Ocarina of Time 3D: 3DS improvements detailed

0

Nintendo could have just shrunk down the Nintendo 64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and added a bit of 3D and we would have been okay with the upcoming 3DS release. Well, maybe not you, but I would have. But they were nice enough to add some improvements for this remake, and the latest Nintendo Power details some of those.

The graphics are similar to the original, but there's a few touch-ups that you'll uncover as you play. Nintendo Power says that characters sill sometimes fade into view as you approach them. Hmm. The interiors are now fully polygonal constructs, though. For example, Kokiri Forest shop now has powers on a far wall, a patterned rug and pots in the foreground. Fancy! Malon's room has crayon drawings hanging from the wall, stuffed toys near her bed, and other knicknacks laying around.

The control has been upgraded a bit for the 3DS. You can now equip four items: One to X, another to Y, and two more to the touch screen. You can also activate your X and Y items by touching the touchscreen. You'll move Link with the new 3DS circle pad, swing your sword with B, and perform actions with A, as expected. The first-person view will be toggled via touchscreen.

Even the ocarina itself gets some upgrades in this version. There's a touchscreen button to pull up the instrument, which means that it does not have to be equipped to use. You can play the ocarina via the touchscreen or face buttons. A song list can be pulled up directly from the ocarina screen now.
