Nintendo World Championships 2017 coming to New York this October

Will John Numbers defend his title?

The Nintendo World Championships will be held for the third time ever on October 7 in New York City's Manhattan Center's New Ballroom. Qualifiers begin on August 19 at eight Best Buy stores around the United States: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Dallas, Seattle, and Miami. Visitors will also be able to get hands-on with upcoming titles Super Mario Odyssey and Metroid: Samus Returns.

Players are divided into groups based on their age, with kids 12 and under playing as Mario on Mario Kart 7's "Luigi's Mansion" stage while those 13 and older will play as Bowser on Mario Kart: Super Circuit's "Bowser Castle 1." Those with the best time over the two-day event in each location's age groups will advance to the NWC in New York. It's first-come, first-serve so make sure to show up early! More specific details on the qualifying round and locations can be found at the official site.

The Nintendo World Championships is a competition among Nintendo fans who battle it out in various Nintendo games to avoid elimination and ultimately be crowned the Nintendo World Champion. First held in 1990, it took a 25 year hiatus until being revived in 2015 where John Numbers took home the title, a trophy, and a 3DS signed by Shigeru Miyamoto.

I wasn't expecting to see another one of these so soon, but the 2015 event at E3 was a lot of fun so why not?
