Nintendo Switch overheating is a thing (man I’ve handled one that was red hot once!), and Nintendo is being a bit more proactive about it this summer.

The tweet comes directly from Nintendo of Japan’s customer service Twitter account, where they posted the following statement (roughly translated, and collected across three separate tweets):

“If you use the Nintendo Switch in a hot place, the temperature of the main unit may become high. Please use in the place of 5 to 35 ℃ . Also, if the intake and exhaust ports are blocked, the temperature of the main unit may rise. Make the air around the intake and exhaust ports better. If the temperature of the main unit becomes too high, it may sleep automatically to protect the main unit.

When playing in TV mode, install the Nintendo Switch Dock in a location that does not retain heat. If there is foreign matter or dust on the air intake / exhaust port of the main unit, remove it with a vacuum cleaner. For your safety, do not disassemble the main unit.”

It’s mostly common sense type stuff folks! A full follow-up Q&A section for Switch overheating can be found here, and remember that Nintendo just opened up a Switch repair subscription service for Japan. The aforementioned Q&A section has images that showcase both the air intake and exhaust ports on the Switch, Switch Lite, and OLED models.
