It’s no secret that Nintendo is on the hunt for outlets that sell devices and modifications that circumvent the copy protection schemes in their consoles, and now Nintendo is asking German shops that sell Wii mod chips to stop.

I4U links us to a German news article that reports that Nintendo is asking shops for the names of the mod chip manufacturers they recieve their stock from. They are also asking these stores to destroy their stock of modded Wii consoles as well as the chips themselves.

My quick check of a few German mod chip distributors shows that some are not too concerned about selling these products online, though Cheap-chip.com and xtrem-tuner seem to have removed Wii mods from their listings. I did notice that all continue to sell Nintendo DS related devices, though.
