My Nintendo physical rewards down, watch your monthly point expirations

My Nintendo physical rewards

Hopefully they come back before the end of the month

[Update: Physical My Nintendo rewards are still down, but there are two new ones coming, confirming what we all thought: this outage is temporary. Nintendo says to “stay tuned” for a Pikachu and Eevee mask cable strap (think USB cables) and a Poke Ball cable strap. Typically it takes a week or less for “teased” rewards to make it to an actual listing, and these are already available in Japan (as of two days ago), so “soon” is probably actually soon.]

My Nintendo physical rewards are down still, and hopefully they come back up before some of your points expire at the end of January. The outage was noticed by several avid My Nintendo users roughly five days ago [thanks to everyone who wrote in!].

So one thing that My Nintendo doesn’t make obvious is that every month you have Platinum Points that can expire. To investigate, log into My Nintendo, then go to the bottom and select “point summary.” Click on “points expiration.” You’ll see a monthly chart of how many points you’re going to lose out on when the month cycles over.

The most obvious play is to use/dump your points before they expire, and the easiest way to do that is to spend them in physical rewards, rather than the same few/lackluster digital ones that are available. But obviously, we can’t do that right now with the physical portion offline.

While there’s often panic over the My Nintendo physical reward page going down; this has happened before. While some folks believe that it’s a sign that Nintendo is “abandoning” physical rewards, it always bounces back with new stock, following maintenance. Make sure to check back daily to see if there’s going to be an opportunity to strike before January 31. Consider it a PSA!

As a reminder, you can find our full My Nintendo guide here: bookmark it for when you need quick points for a reward. A handful of platinum points is incredibly easy to get, as that’s basically just 15 minutes with Super Mario Run, or a quick sign-on to the 3DS or Wii U 3Shop. Also remember that any shipments are bundled together, so you can pay a flat rate for multiple items instead of paying it each time. Just know that items go out of stock on My Nintendo frequently, and some are never restocked.
