You know that senseless devotion some gamers have for the Sega Dreamcast? I have the same type of love and devotion for the Sega Saturn. The big black (or grey or white) box that everyone hated is still the focus of my gaming passion. It has the perfect controller and an awesome library of games. Believe it or not, I bought six games for it last week!

I’m smart enough to realize that my love for the Saturn is totally senseless, and that the old system is little more than a doorstop for some. That’s why I’ll just have to get over that one was gutted to house a fully-functional computer.  Tsukomo’s blog (Japanese) has the full details of the construction of this mod, which ends up packing 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard disk in this Japanese Saturn. That’s a hell of a lot more storage than the system’s original game storage, and you don’t have to switch out the battery every few years any more!

These guys went all the way with the using of the original Saturn accessories. They modded the Saturn mouse to work with the system, and even the Memory Cartridge has been modded with a USB interface.

This is all great, but now they’re going to have to rely on emulation to play Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, or Saturn Bomberman.
