Miyamoto: Star Fox Zero is the most underrated Wii U game

0

Bill Trinen rightly chooses Pikmin 3

Game Informer recently caught up with famed developer Shigeru Miyamoto, and asked him what the most underrated game on the Wii U was. His answer was somewhat predictable in Star Fox Zero, a passion project that he worked on for many years. He even throws in that "an elementary school kid who plays it without any preconceived notions," would enjoy it more than the average gamer. That's...quite a qualifier! Nintendo prides itself on being the Pixar of gaming in my mind (at least, pre-Cars Pixar), appealing to all ages.

But the most interesting part of the interview, to me, is when Bill Trinen (senior product marketing manager for NOA) jumps in. Without anything at stake like Miyamoto, who experienced negative reactions to Zero, he just namedrops Pikmin 3, stating, "I think that hardly anyone realizes that the multiplayer bingo battle mode was literally the best new multiplayer mode that has been created since Smash Bros. It is so much fun."

That's basically what I've been saying since its launch! The bingo mode is absolutely amazing, and occasionally while I'm playing other versus modes, I think of it. If Trinen is still playing bingo mode somewhat competitively, I'd love the chance to play with him some day.

In response to Trinen's choice, Miyamoto does drop a small nugget of wisdom that may foreshadow where the industry is going, saying, "Pikmin is the kind of game that you have to play maybe three times to get the full effect, but you know, people don’t have a lot of time, so they just clear the stage and just move on. Games are becoming more of a consumable product, and it’s getting harder and harder for people to let a game to sink in and enjoy leisurely.”
