So, Peter Molyneux says Milo is still coming, while Microsoft is now backtracking and saying that it was a tech demo in an attempt to confirm that pretty much everything said about Kinect during the E3 2009 press conference was a complete lie. Whether or not Milo is supposed to be a real thing, Microsoft is saying that the tech behind it lives on through Kinectimals.
“Milo and Kate, the technology is stuff that we’re still incubating back in the studios,” says Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer. “I think Lionhead has always been a great place, and the nice thing about Peter [Molyneux] as Creative Director in Europe is you start to see some of those ideas around Milo also showing up in other places, so Kinectimals is actually done at Frontier.
“But Peter being so close has actually been able to take many of the learnings that Lionhead has done and help other teams, and when you see the interaction between the girl and the animal on stage you can see similarities to stuff we were working on with Milo, so we start with experiments and they may turn into games themselves.”
So, rather than being the semi-sentient Skynet child that Milo was revealed to be, it has actually become a glorified EyePet called Skittles that gets publicly molested by diminutive Asian girls who are paid to pretend that they can feel it licking their face. How the mighty have fallen.
