Microsoft announces cross-platform play for Minecraft

Windows 10, iOS, Android

Today at their 2016 E3 conference, Microsoft announced a brand new patch for Minecraft dubbed "The Friendly Update." It'll allow Android, iOS, and Windows 10 players to engage in Cross-Play with each other. It was also confirmed that you can earn achievements on iOS, and texture packs/add-ons are coming to Pocket Edition and Windows 10. An example given in the clip was giving enemies new abilities, AI, and skins.

Eventually, they want to unite Minecraft players on "all platforms" (Xbox was mentioned as targeted for "next year"). As a Minecraft player this all seems pretty exciting, even if the presentation probably looks lame to everyone else. Expect more news at MineCon in September.
