Let me share a little factoid with you: the reason I am so obsessed with gaming in Japan isn’t that I want everything I play to be disgustingly cute or look like it just fell out of an anime. It’s because Japan’s games lean frequently towards a level of weird that I absolutely love, and there’s some screaming and nutty music to go along with it. Add a bunch of characters with totally vacant expressions and some completely ridiculous gameplay elements, and I’ve just found console heaven.
Let’s Hitchhike for WiiWare fits that description more perfectly than a game I would fantasize existed inside my own head. Using the Wiimote, you play what looks like an all-white version of Elvis (hair included) that has you performing random moves to get passing cars to stop and pick you up. Of course, no one in their right mind would pick up a guy dressed as Elvis frantically gesturing on the side of the road, but this is the world of videogames, after all.
Disgaea devs Nippon Ichi are behind this title, which was released in Japan yesterday. A North American release is officially nowhere in sight, but one is slated for sometime around when hell freezes over. Check out the full gameplay video after the jump.
