Yesterday a website for Command & Conquer popped up and reverted to a blank page shortly afterwards. But not before Rock Paper Shotgun and Voodoo Extreme grabbed the little available info from the site. A new studio, Victory Games, is working on the new C&C title or series as well as taking over the strategy games division from EA LA, which was closed last year.
A new Global Community Manager posted a short bio — hopefully left-handed — and an interview with General Manager Jon Van Caneghem was briefly accessible on the site. Van Caneghem said things like: “Our current focus is making a AAA Command & Conquer game,” and “I can tell you it’s a Command & Conquer game for the PC.”
He also said: “Our general focus is on the future of Command & Conquer. That means updating a lot of the core technology to create a stable base for future development, and leveraging that work on this first game.” Sounds like a new post-Kane C&C franchise? I never bothered with Command & Conquer 4, so I don’t really have any idea what ever happened to Kane. Time will tell. Sooner or later… time will tell.
