Oh my God. Oh my God!
We’ve just received a billion tips about a brand new 2D Sonic the Hedgehog game to be published by Sega in 2010. According to the video, this is an all-new Sonic game in hi-def. The game is currently codenamed as Project Needlemouse and it looks like the idea is to create an old school game that evokes feelings of “proper” Sonic games.
I never thought they’d do it. I never thought they’d capitalize on the success of Mega Man 9 and actually try to make a “real” Sonic again, but perhaps I underestimated Sega. Still, some questions are unanswered — why does the sillouhette in the mystery logo not look like Sonic (it’s been pointed out that it might actually be the original logo and I am dumb)? Does the Needlemouse name have any meaning (it was an original Sonic codename)? Will Sonic Team be doing this, and if so, will it just be 2D suckage?
Nobody knows, but for right now, I am very excited!
