Happy birthday, Sonic the Hedgehog!

2013-06-23 15:00:00  ยท  Wesley Ruscher

22 years ago you dashed into my heart!

To think 22 years ago on this day Sega unleashed a mascot that would give Nintendo's chubby little plumber a run for his money. It was an epic battle in the nineties, but we all know how it ended.

To celebrate the spinny blue hedgehog's 22nd birthday Sega held a special event at their Tokyo based Joypolis amusement park to a sellout crowd. The event, titled "Sonic Birthday Party 2013," was emceed by Sonic Lost World producer Takashi Iizuka and covered Sonic's up and down career from the Genesis to present.

So how will you celebrate the red shoe wearing, ring grabbing, spin-dashing erinaceinae's birthday? Me, I think I'll eat a chili dog.
