Guide: Five tips for surviving Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer

0

Break the pots: classic Zelda

Cadence of Hyrule isn't nearly as brutal as the original Crypt of the Necrodancer, but the rhythm-based gameplay is something that takes practice to make perfect.

Here's a few Cadence-centric tips to make that process a little easier (vague gameplay spoilers below).

  • Don't stop moving. It's way easier to get into the groove of the music and keep your combo going (which grants you bonuses for pretty much all your actions) if you keep going, even if you need to run around in place for a few seconds while you maneuver around a hazard or are thinking of how to solve a puzzle.

Remember that if you eliminate every enemy on the screen you can run around unfettered by the beat, so seeking out that last goon hiding in a wall somewhere will allow you to explore your surroundings in more relaxed manner.
  • Use the screen transitions to sleaze through some tougher enemies, especially early on. What I mean by that: if you need to get through a screen, try to move through an adjacent, less scary screen, get to the edge, then move to where you need to go after you've skipped a bit of walking distance.
  • Once you obtain the lute item (it's in a cave near the water/ice dungeon), you can fast travel anywhere and teleport to the start of dungeons. The best way to use it is to keep teleporting back to Kakariko Village (the southwest portion of the map) to replenish the pots and grass when you need to heal.

Clear out the town of hearts, teleport, and repeat to get back to full life for free. Speaking of, just always try to wack grass and pots like any Zelda game as there are myriad items hidden in them. Just be careful not to hit statues as they may explode or come to life.

Once you find a fairy location you can just heal there.
  • Save diamonds (the currency that you still retain after you die) for permanent upgrades, not consumables. Permanent upgrades include things like heart containers and new weapons (read: ones that don't have a number below them, like 3x bombs).

Some diamond shops are in the field too, so saving your diamonds in general for a really big buy is always worth it. If you die, you can always spend them then.
  • If you see flags in the ground, that denotes that you're in a "temple" location. There are four of them you need to complete until you unlock the final area.
