Giant squid alert! First Tomb Raider: Underworld gameplay trailer

Even though I was done with Lara Croft’s adventures after Tomb Raider III for the original PlayStation I still had high hopes for the character. I even saw both (yes, both!) Angelina Jolie films in the theater in an attempt to rekindle my love for the original queen of cosplay. (Unsurprisingly, that didn’t work.)

It wasn’t until 2006’s exceptional Tomb Raider: Legend when my love for all things Lara Croft returned. Combining classic exploring with some satisfying Prince of Persia acrobatics, Legend was a stellar entry in the Tomb Raider series — bringing the game back to its classic, adventuring roots.

If the above gameplay trailer for the upcoming Tomb Raider: Underworld is any indication, it looks like the Lara Croft hot streak is set to continue. While I wanted to see more of the highly buzzed about underwater levels, the footage shown looks extremely polished. From the gorgeous and well-designed environments to the foreboding voice acting, Underworld looks to be another impressive entry in the Tomb Raider series.

Check out the trailer and let us know what you think. Is Tomb Raider quietly returning to its revered days of yore? How excited are you about battling that giant squid?
