Games of the week for 08/30/09: Sex Bomb Hitler edition

Recommended Videos

I am pretty sure I’ve used this video in a previous post, but I can’t think of any new video to post this week. So, have a ridiculously old video from a meme that never quite caught on as well as it should, with Adolf Hitler singing “Sex Bomb” and it’s oh-so very funny and everybody laughs. How wonderful.

Speaking of the National Socialist Party, we played videogames this week. For crying out loud, hit the jump and find out which ones we did.

Bennett: Playing Cursed Mountain for review and loving it. It’s a perfect hybrid of everything I loved about Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame. I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

Yesterday I also played some Super Mario World with Niero and that was pretty awesome.

Razak: I’ve been attempting to 100 percent the Metroid Prime Trilogy which is going very, very slowly. I still love the games though. I remember the maps being much harder to navigate, but maybe that’s just me. I’ve also never understood the backtracking complaints leveled at the game. I love running through the world and I think going through it multiple times is not only something you do in Metroid games, but something that makes the world feel much more involved.

Gutierrez: Tossing on my PS3 fanboy hat for this one. Currently playing and WILL FINISH, Silent Hill Homecoming, Arkam Asylum, Bioshock (replaying on the PS3), Ratchet & Clank.

Also, I am so in love with the redesign and the awesomeness of the new hardware that I’ve decided to buy all multi platform games on PS3. Fed up with Xbox clunkiness and fail rate.

=)

Sarkar: I got Batman: Arkham Asylum on Thursday, and it’s all I’ve been playing. I keep doing awesome, bad-ass things that make me yell out, “I AM THE GODDAMN BATMAN,” and that’s one of the many things I love about the game. The last thing I completed was the second Scarecrow encounter — damn, they’ve been grand.

Holmes: But R3y, what about when the 360 Slim comes out in a few months? Then the Wii Slim-Plus? Then the PS3 i-Slim-lite-plus? What will happen to your poor PS3 Slim then?

Did I mention I accept hand-me-downs?

As for games, got the updated GBA emulator for the Wii’s Homebrew Channel, and have been replaying Mother 3 and Rhythm Tengoku (and yes, I own the original carts for both. Don’t sick Nintendo on me). Unfortunately, the save files from both games didn’t transfer over to this new emulator, so I had to start from scratch. No big deal though, because both games are worth playing again from the beginning. This new emulator doesn’t seem to lag at all, makes the timing-sensitive gameplay of both titles much more manageable.

The big letdown for me this week was Final Fantasy: Dissidia. After reading SepherothX and Ckarasu‘s inspired cblogs about the demo, I really thought I’d learn to enjoy it. So far, not so good. You know how in an RPG, your characters start off really weak, and can only do one or two different attacks? Yeah, Dissidia’s the same way, but it’s a fighting game. Just imagine playing Street Fighter II for two hours with Ryu before he learned how to do more than one punch and one kick (let alone a shoryuken) and you’ll get what I mean.

My other big purchase this week was Metroid Prime Trilogy. Great games. I still think Echoes is the best. And what’s with people bagging on the multiplayer? With four people, and a big TV, it’s totally fun. Don’t know what more you could have wanted it to do.

Also played some No More Heroes, and pretended it was No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle. I’m so jealous of those of you who will be playing NMH2 next week, ya bums. I expect a full report from all of you.

Finally, stuck with my regular Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Game Center CX 2 routines, but I managed to get myself to only play Animal Crossing every other day, instead of my regular daily habit. Recovery is a long road, but with a lot of time and energy, I think I can eventually break this habit.

Concelmo: I finished Shadow Complex and, yup, still think it’s pretty much the best game of the year. Also played Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for the Xbox 360. I was not going to share that information with the world, but I realized I have to embrace my love of terrible games. Yes, I played Half-Blood Prince, world. And yes it was horrible. But I loved it, okay? I LOVED IT!

Sterling: Played C.O.R.E on the DS. It’s terrible. Played Warriors Orochi 2 on the PSP. It’s alright. Played Batman: Arkham Asylum. It’s pretty great. Did nothing else with my time.

Ross: I haven’t really played anything because I’ve had Scotty over. Only thing I’ve had time for has been the new Layton game, which is amazing.

Cantler: Like Rey, I’ve also been playing Silent Hill: Homecoming, except I’m NOT going to finish it, because it suuuucks. instead I played Mainichi Issho, Super Puzzle Fighter, Lumines Supernova, MvC2 and a little Dead Rising. Someone please recommend to me a horror game that realizes rusty walls, locked doors and crippled character movement aren’t scary.

Villasenor: I didn’t get to play anything this week because school started.

Chester: Guitar Hero 5, Borderlands all week, and I can’t say anything about either of them right now.

Here’s what I can talk about: Katamari on the Android. Wow, what a pile of shit that is. (That’s official videogame blogger jargon right there.) Even at $2.99, I can’t recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately, my will is weak and I purchased it while sitting in a doctor’s waiting room. Insurance doesn’t cover crap mobile games, apparently.
