Free Realms comes to Mac later this Fall

Sony Online Entertainment is bringing their popular (and free) MMO to Mac later this fall. The company announced today that they’ve collaborated with TransGaming to to bring the Macintosh user base the ability to play along with the existing 14 million registered players [wow!] that already get down with Free Realms on the PC.

“There is no denying the overwhelming player demand for Free Realms on the Mac platform, of which we plan to deliver very soon,” said John Smedley, president of SOE. “For the first time ever, SOE is developing synchronous gameplay for Mac and PC players and we are thrilled to tap into TransGaming’s Mac development expertise to bring this functionality to fruition.”

Gamers will have similar controls to the PC version in the Mac version, and will also play on the same game servers as PC gamers. The existing Marketplace and community forums will also be available as a Mac user. Nothing changes other than the computer.

I’m sure we’ll hear a more solid release date soon.
