Final Fantasy XIII on PC already modded to support higher resolutions

After downsampling, Square Enix's JRPG has never looked better

Modder extraordinaire and part-time digital saint Durante has come to our rescue once again. This time he's set his sights on Square Enix's lackluster PC port of Final Fantasy XIII by releasing an updated version of his GeDoSaTo tool which includes a custom plugin for the game allowing much higher resolutions and more expansive graphical options. You can see the results for yourself in the gallery.

Even if you don't plan on using it to polish up Square Enix's halfhearted effort at catering to PC gamers, GeDoSaTo is an exceptionally valuable tool to have on hand in any instance.

Durante offers a brief but concise explanation of what the program does on his blog:

"GeDoSaTo is a utility for modifying the rendering of games. Its primary purpose is allowing for downsampling without any limitations and with high quality filtering, but it can also be used to inject various effects, hide HuDs, or even add new capabilities with game-specific plugins."

Bear in mind, Beta 0.14 “Barrage am Ring” is still a work in progress, so you may encounter the odd bug now and again. In any case, having some options at the risk of encountering the odd glitch is definitely better than none at this point, and I'm fairly confident he'll have this version up to speed before too long.

If you'd like to download the latest version of GeDoSaTo, you can find it on Durante's blog along with more detailed information on known bugs, help with installation, usage and more. Additionally, if you would like to consider donating to help continue his noble endeavors, you can do so here.

Launching with a resolution locked at 1280 x 720, a gargantuan install file to contend with, and almost no graphical options to speak of, it's no wonder some people are put off by the game. With two titles left in the trilogy left to go, I'm curious to see if Square Enix will change course and address these issues on its own, or if we'll be left to continue depending on the kindness of strangers. Only time will tell.
