Epic memorializes crazy player-driven 'rescue mission' in Fortnite

They really know how to cater to their fanbase

Last week an entertaining event happened in Fortnite and it had nothing to do with the development team. Streamer MrMuselk kicked off a rescue mission to help save a player named Chappadoodle, who was stuck in a gulch in the new desert biome.

He creates a series of spiral staircases down to them to save them but he can't reach him. Then he gets the bright idea to drive a golf cart down to Chappadoodle's location to allow him to bounce off the roof onto the stairs and...subsequently knocks him off the map by accident. If you haven't seen the clip yet it's only a few minutes and doesn't contain any loud yelling -- it's worth the watch!

Cut to seven days later. Epic Games apparently memorialized the incident with a tombstone for Chappadoodle, which was discovered by Reddit user StoreBrandEnigma. Epic even recognized their creation in the reddit post, noting: "The legacy of Chappadoodle lives on."

There aren't a whole lot of developers doing this like this, especially this quickly. Epic has gained a reputation for swiftly fixing everything from major database problems to small quality of life issues, and there are very few comparable studios left: really only Blizzard comes to mind with their endless World of Warcraft shenanigans and the occasional non-WoW hat tip.
