Electronic Arts turns back on 3D gaming

0

Despite some companies going so far up 3D gaming's arse it would need a rescue team to escape, Electronic Arts isn't impressed. The publisher sees no reason to invest in the concept and will focus its efforts elsewhere.

"We see really high returns in these markets and very poor returns focusing on 3D, so we are allocating our resources toward new innovations," said EA CEO John Riccitiello. "Frankly we have not seen a big uptake for 3D gaming. We have not seen a big uptake in 3D TVs in the home, at least not yet. We are not here trying to drive a market. We are here to react to what consumers are looking for."

Sony has especially been big on 3D gaming, with its E3 press conference practically being a love letter to the concept. Meanwhile, consumers haven't exactly gone wild for it, and one can't help but think this fad-that-wasn't-even-much-of-a-fad will go away soon.
