If you want some scale of how big publisher Electronic Arts is, you might be interested to know that they lost $1.01 billion last year and are still going about business as usual. While some other publishers are closing, EA continues making games. What badasses.
Their fourth quarter and fiscal year ending results showed the loss, which is more than twice the $454 million they lost last year. Despite all of this loss, EA’s sales are actually up for the year, says Gamespot. The most recent quarter saw sales of $860 million, with games like Rock Band 2, Left 4 Dead, and Need for Speed: Undercover helping them out a bit.
EA CEO John Riccitiello said that they’re looking forward instead of back, stating that “EA is well positioned with the right strategies in a growing industry.” It seems that digital services are their new focus, but it doesn’t look like they expect it to kick in right away, as they expect to be down some $3.7 billion for 2010. Yikes. Hang in there, EA.
