DS Lite breaks 10 million mark in Japan; Friend Code shortage unlikely

Call me crazy, but I think Nintendo just may have something here with their DS Lite. Their wacky little two-screened handheld seems to be selling like hot-cakes in Japan! Why, just this April, Nintendo sold another 702,844 DS Lites in Japan, putting the total number of DS Lites sold there over 10 million.

That’s right folks, 10 million DS Lites.

If you haven’t been frozen in carbonite for the last three years, you’ll remember that there are two versions of Nintendo’s must-have gamer accessory — the DS Lite and the DS ‘Phat.’ The combined total sales for both these handheld purveyors of happiness is now upwards of forty million units worldwide. Now forty may be a lot of millions, but sadly, it’s not enough. Why? Because of Friend Codes, people.

You see, the total possible outcomes of randomly combining twelve digits — a la Friend Codes — is roughly around 62 billion, so if we ever want to see an end to the fun-poison that these codes truly are, we’re going to have use up each and every one of these damnable combinations. Japan has taken the lead by buying their share of DSs, but now it’s up to the rest of us to pitch in for the cause.

Remember, only terrorists like Friend Codes.
