Double Helix taking on the G.I. Joe game

Look, you mention G.I. Joe, I think about porkchop sandwiches. It’s that simple. I doubt EA and Hasbro had that in mind when they announced the G. I. Joe videogame today, but if they didn’t, they should have.

Created to complement the film that comes out August 7th, the game is being worked on by Double Helix, the team behind Silent Hill: Homecoming, and is being described as a “modernized classic arcade shooter”. This apparently includes third-person perspective with melee combos, co-op minigames, launcher attacks and drivable vehicles. Excited yet?

Apparently the game will pick up after the events of the film and offer 12 familiar character to choose from, which are split into the three classes of Commando, Heavy Soldier and Combat Soldier. Matt Marsala, the game;s senior producer, had some more words on what to expect:

“No matter what the franchise is, you still have to make sure that all of the core mechanics are in place and feeling really good – things like controller responsiveness, character, vehicle, and weapon variety and tuning, combat systems, AI, and encounter pacing are all things that we’ve put a lot of focus on in order to satisfy those core gamers.”
This might actually be … good.  Slated for release on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, and DS, we don’t know exactly when to expect the title just yet, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated when new details emerge.
