Publisher Serenity Forge has announced that visual novel adventure Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! has sold over one million copies since its initial launch on PC and consoles in the summer of 2021.

Doki Doki Literature Club puts players in the role of a new student, begrudgingly roped into joining their new school’s poetry club, where they meet fellow teenage scribes Sayori, Natsuki, Yuri, and the club’s president, Monika. The expanded Plus! edition features the original game in its entirety, freshly polished with remastered visuals, as well as a glut of new features and additional side stories, providing the ultimate romantic experience for both new and returning fans.

“These past five years, seeing my writing reach so many people has helped to shape who I am,” said original creator Dan Salvato of the sales. “I feel so connected to every Doki Doki Literature Club! fan I have the privilege of meeting. In my gratitude to all our supporters, I’m committed to using our funding from Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! to support mental health nonprofits, as well as to make new boundary-breaking games that can create connection and meaning for even more people.”

Initially launched as a Steam indie release back in 2017, positive word of mouth would see the original Doki Doki Literature Club hit an amazing 13 million downloads. The now iconic release would receive high praise from critics and players for its intriguing nature, evolving story, memorable characters, and meta qualities, all of which facilitate an experience quite unlike that which might have been originally expected.
