Despite sales, Namco sees future for Enslaved series

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was a fantastic little title, but like many truly wonderful games, it didn’t sell very well. Namco Bandai has admitted that Ninja Theory’s game did not perform as hoped, but the publisher did put faith in the IP’s future.

“It didn’t perform as well as we hoped it would, but we’re very proud of how it was received by both the media and the gamers who have experienced it,” said marketing director Lee Kirton. “I can’t discuss where we are in terms of a sequel, but we’re looking at reviews and feedback from the press and because of the gameplay and quality that Enslaved delivered, we see it as a great catalogue title going forward.”

I’d take another, for sure. I loved the original, and I’m bummed it didn’t sell very well. Still, the fact that Namco isn’t about to kill an IP just because the first one failed to meet sales expectations is pretty damn respectable. I used to rag on that company all the time, but they’re fast becoming one of my favorite publishers.
