Cyan is bringing Obduction to PS4, PSVR, and Vive in 2017

Exactly what I was waiting for

Myst and Riven maker Cyan has kept itself plenty busy with Obduction, its latest absorbing adventure, and that's going to be the case for a while longer. Having recently rolled out the option to play on PC with Oculus Rift, the studio is now turning its attention to supporting PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and HTC Vive. That'll all come about next year, Cyan CEO Rand Miller tells GamesBeat.

"We're opening up the Obduction virtual reality experience to more platforms and going all in for the VR future," he said. "We have some optimization to do for the PS4, but it is surprisingly capable as a platform." Miller added that he was "amazed at how good this looks on a console."

I haven't yet played Obduction, and that's solely because I was waiting for an announcement like this (bless this aging PC of mine). I'm down for the PS4 port, assuming it looks and runs okay.

Caitlin reviewed the initial PC release for us, noting, "It's a special thing when a game gifts you a superior experience without traditional or prescribed story mechanics, and from that perspective Obduction prevails completely. Some of the puzzles and paths can become overused and tiring after a while, but on the whole it stretches the mind in the right ways. For what it sets out to do, it does it pretty perfectly, and I think both fans and newcomers alike will appreciate its ingenuity."
