Could this be it? A true Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor?

We've been let down before, but I'm unable to contain my enthusiasm for Playtonic Games' Project Ukulele, a new platforming adventure from the people we want making this type of game.

Formed by six former Rare staffers, the studio includes "the bloke who programmed Donkey Kong Country, the character designer behind Banjo and Kazooie, and the artist who made your console fit to burst with lavish environments across a decade's worth of adventure games."

In its debut blog post, Playtonic wrote that "...this time it's real! We're making a real, proper, actual game." The first artwork and more details will appear in Edge issue 277, which is out this week.

"Over the coming months we'll reveal more about our project and future growth plans, and we very much intend to get you involved and listen to your views on our game's direction," wrote the studio. "You'll ultimately shape the destination of our project and we plan to continue exchanging sweet glances across cyberspace at you until we get there."

I couldn't get enough of this genre even when it was flooded with releases. If Project Ukulele can capture a fraction of the magic of Rare in its prime, we're in for something special. Bring it on.
