Chivalry developer trademarks Mirage: Arcane Warfare

Dark Messiah of Might and Chivalry?

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare was absolutely great. Take a load of shouty knights, make them chuck axes and swing swords at each other in a first person melee-fest, and you’ve got yourself a grand ole time. Plus it gets extra points for having a dedicated warcry button.

But since Chivalry, developer Torn Banner has been incredibly quiet about what it's working on. Chivalry launched for PC back in 2012, and all it's really done since then are ports and the Deadliest Warrior expansion, so it had to have been working on something new all this time. At last, we know what it might be.

According to a trademark Torn Banner filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, its next title is likely going to be called Mirage: Arcane Warfare. Gee, I wonder what that could be?

Chances are Mirage is going to be a more fantasy-focused follow up to Chivalry. Torn Banner has already made clear that historical accuracy isn’t a priority for them, what with Deadliest Warrior pitting Spartans against pirates and all, but magic would be a first for the franchise.

My hope is that they take a look at Dark Messiah of Might and Magic for an example on how to make both melee and magic combat fun. I’m incredibly excited to see more of this, seeing as how much I love Chivalry.

But for now we don’t know anything about it other than the title, so it’s anyone’s guess exactly what it could be. Here’s hoping Torn Banner shows off what it's made soon!
