Check out new model-on-model footage for New Gundam Breaker

Oh hey it's Big Zam

Earlier today, Bandai Namco released five minutes of footage for the upcoming New Gundam Breaker, giving us our first good look at the game itself and the localization. The footage focuses around the three-on-three mode, which is brand new to the game. You can take a look at the footage in all of its plastic model glory below.

It sure is similar and different from Gundam Breaker 3, to say the least.

The core gameplay is similar to the previous entry, which we reviewed. Your body is made of multiple parts, which in turn decides what additional abilities and stats you have. Beyond that, you and your enemies can smash off parts from each other, disabling the abilities tied to that limb. However, the big difference here, and this entry's new feature, is you can collect those parts and actively swap them on the fly. What impact it can have on stats, and if you can potentially lose previously equipped parts for good, is unknown, but it is definitely an interesting mechanic. How much of an impact it will have remains to be seen.

In addition, if one pays close attention, they can identify what series and suits will be in the main game. While it is not the final roster, this footage alone confirms that the original show, Stardust Memory, F91, Origins, Wing, X, SEED and its spinoff Astray, and Iron-Blooded Orphans will have mobile suits in the base game. Also, giant bosses such as the infamous Big Zam will return once again. While it seems obvious that all the series will be included, if Gundam Versus has taught us anything, do not assume they are a shoe-in until they're confirmed for the base game.

As for the three-on-three mode, I'm not quite sold yet. This is confirmed to be part of the online suite, acting as PVP. While there is a confirmed single-player mode, this will almost certainly be a part of some missions at the very least. However, if this is the entire game, I don't know how to feel about that. It's very much a wait-and-see situation until we learn more about the single-player content.

New Gundam Breaker will release worldwide exclusively on the PlayStation 4 later this year.
