CD Projekt RED keeping quiet about Cyberpunk 2077 for a couple years

It's the Witcher's time to shine

I last spoke about Cyberpunk 2077 over a year ago and noted that the game felt so far off, I couldn't even visualize it despite the cool, seedy, world-building promotional images and trailer. I'd say the project was announced too early -- and for us video game blog-reading obsessive types, it was -- but talking about 2077 publicly surely helped attract new talent to CD Projekt RED.

Now that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is released, can we shift our attention to the team's next big role-playing game? If only it were so simple. Speaking to Reuters, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski said "We hope and we are certain that Cyberpunk has even bigger commercial potential. It is too early to talk about it, though. This year, and the next one will be the years of the Witcher."

Expansions, man -- first a 10-hour romp in October, then a 20-hour adventure in Q1 2016.

Can't blame them for focusing on the thing that will provide funding for future things, including 2077. "We broke into the mainstream [with The Witcher 3]. It is such a moment in our firm's history that after some years people will look differently at CD Projekt before and after this release."
