So, Catherine‘s gameplay has finally been revealed and it looks … well … not quite as great as the rest of it. The bipedal sheep are sweet, the big swingin’ mammary glands are fine, but the actual “interactive” part of this interactive entertainment? Skepticism is creeping in.
The latest selection of screenshots confirm most of what we already know — that Vincent will be doing a lot of climbing. Your job is to navigate a tower of blocks within a time limit and move things around to create a path. Some of the blocks have traps in them, such as spikes, and various parts of the tower contain collectibles.
Xbox Live and PlayStation Network will be integrated into the game, although it’s likely they’ll just be leaderboards. You never know, though. Something unique may pop out of the bag.
I have to say that I’m with Conrad on this. I was really excited about the game, conceptually, but it’s starting to look like one of those games that try to sell based on concept alone and may lack the gameplay to back it up.
I certainly hope I am wrong, as I think we need more games with Catherine‘s eccentricity and uniqueness. I also don’t think this game will be bad. I just worry that it’ll end up being Q*Bert with tits … and nobody wants that.
