This reminds me of those places where you can get a “cheap gourmet” meal from chefs in training. Or a $4 haircut from barbers in training. The difference here is that this looks good!
Capcom first-year employees made this new iPhone game called Planet Work. It’s spacemen cleaning up planets, and it is only an iPhone game, but that’s still really cool that only first-years worked on this. We’re talking mostly guys fresh out of college, just getting their feet wet at Capcom, says 1UP.
“Game projects as of late have grown into incredibly huge things in scope,” big-time Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi Famitsu in an interview. “It’s hard to produce one game a year the way that people used to be able to do. That got me thinking that perhaps the best way to get our new employees a taste of the peaks and valleys of game development is to have them produce a game of their own by themselves.”
The game is up on the iTunes App store. Takeuchi wants us to play it and kick the young dev team’s ass with strict reviews. I love the idea. We should do it. It looks like the game is doing fine right now from early reviews.
