Capcom enjoys money, dishing out multiplatform releases

You’ve really got to hand it to Capcom for being able to earn large quantities of money through the whoring of key franchises (e.g., Mega Man) while simultaneously giving us the AAA games we adore (Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV).

It only makes sense, then, that the company would opt to throw out phrases like “all major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multiplatform games” in its annual report.

Current examples given were the previously mentioned RE5 (projected 2.3 million units) and SFIV (projected 1.7 million units), in addition to the upcoming, non-downloadable Bionic Commando (projected 1.5 million units).

As far as I’m concerned, the situation is win-win no matter how you look at it. More single-console owners get to play Capcom’s games, and the company sees an increase in revenue through the expanded audience.
