Bungie shares Destiny 2 plans from now until the (delayed) Shadowkeep expansion

There's event extensions to go with that delay

As you may have heard, Destiny 2's next expansion (and free-to-play shell) Shadowkeep has been delayed. Just by a few weeks mind, and Bungie is going to shift its road map around a little to compensate.

Calling it "ending on a high note," a new blog re-iterates that multiple events (like Iron Banner) will be repeated before the end of the season, and provides a new detailed calendar/road map for what's happening between now and October 1: when Shadowkeep launches. The Solstice of Heroes will run through August 27, at which point the first Iron Banner event will kick off through September 3.

Then update (patch notes below) will drop sometime between September 3 through 10, followed by a Moments of Triumph Week/Infamy (Gambit ranking) boost for a week. Then the second Iron Banner run will pick up on September 17 for one week, with a big Mayhem, Valor, and Infamy boost happening from September 24 through October 1. Then Shadowkeep hits on that same day!

We're officially in the "cleanup" era of a live service game's lifecycle right before a new expansion hits. Most of this outside of the Solstice consists of repeated events and "double XP weekend" boosts, so if you desire some hard-earned (hah) time off until Shadowkeep, take it. Or keep powering through to get that Moments of Triumph t-shirt.

This Week at Bungie [Bungie.net]

In Destiny 2 Update, you’ll find a quick quality-of-life update to address some trending feedback from players, specifically concerning rewards. Here’s a preview:

  • Moments of Triumph has been extended through 9/17.
  • Gambit Prime and Reckoning weapon reward rates will be highly increased.
    • They will also have bad-luck protection to guarantee a drop after a set amount of runs.
  • Reckoning difficulty will be tuned to be more welcoming as you hunt for rewards.
  • BrayTech Schematics will no longer have a daily lockout and will give better chances toward weapons that players do not own.
  • Mountaintop and Wendigo GL3 pinnacle quests will become more accessible.
    • Specific quest objectives will be tuned based on player feedback
  • There will be multiple weeks of increased Valor and Infamy to look forward to in September.
    • Iron Banner will be accompanied by increased Valor in each event.
  • As the season comes to a close, Menagerie chests will become more rewarding as Calus sees fit.
  • On the week of Destiny 2 Update, we'll be hosting a Community Challenge of sorts. Stay tuned for more details.
