Hello and Welcome to another day of: Tone's Rush To Forza3: Nurburgring Extravaganza! 500 are you crazy?! Blitz!!
Today we take a look at 40 years of Lamborghini. Founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini, The car maker has given the world some of the most exotic sports cars ever produced. The company was actually founded as a tractor company. Lamborghini's first car produced was the Miura although it went by a couple other names in its concept stages.
We were fortunate enough to get some track time with several of Lamborghini's most amazing cars and see what they could do.
Lap 24.) 1967 Lamborghini Miura
Ahhh the car that began it all. The Miura was a V12 developed to compete with Ferrari's of the day. Although it didn't quite measure up to Ferrari in terms of performance, it did however, strike a chord with it's impressive styling. In our lap, this car had the slowest time of the day at 9:14.016. But, when you remember that this car was made in 1967; you just gotta live in the nostalgia of the ride.
Lap25.) 1988 Lamborghini Countach LP5000
Probably the most famous of all the worlds supercars; the Lamborghini Countach is the bar by which all supercars appearances are measured. But you better be short because the cockpit is tiny and cramped. Fortunately for me, being only 5' 7" I had plenty to room for my lap around the Ring. The Countach came in at a time of: 8:23.945 which was a solid time considering its aerodynamic flaws. Still my favorite car of all time from childhood and will always remain: the Lamborghini Countach LP5000.
Lap26.) 1997 Lamborghini Diablo SV
Lamborghini had been quiet for a few years when it stunned the world with the release of this beautiful new model; The Diablo SV. With performance as sinister as its namesake; the Diablo was a lot of car to handle with more horses than a Texas ranch. Our time with this car was 8:12.347.
Lap 27.) 1999 Lamborghini Diablo GTR
As if the Diablo SV wasn't enough; Lamborghini decided to throw some more power into the car to make the Diablo GTR. Our time was also 5 seconds faster with this model at a time of 8:07.847 and what a wild ride it was! You could really feel the power difference between the two models.
Lap 28.) 2005 Lamborghini Gallardo
The Gallardo marks a big change in Lamgorghini. Why? because with the Gallardo comes the first of Audi Owned Lamborghinis. The Gallardo was not just an audi though. With its all wheel drive and ample power this car still has the 'bull by the horns'. Our time with this amazing car was 8:12.347. Not too bad when you consider it has less HP than the Diablo.
Lap 29.) 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago
This 500 HP monster was now at my fingertips and I was not going to let it go to waste. As I climbed in to What was surely a cockpit more akin to something out of Star Wars than your average car; I knew I was in for the ride of a lifetime. With a time of 7:57.190, the Murcielago was the second fastest Lambo we tested. All wheel drive kept this car glued to the tarmac as I flew through the course.
Lap 30.) 2006 Lamborghini Miura Concept
Well here it is 40 year Anniversary of Lamborghini and they celbrate in style with the Miura Concept. The body design is the only thing that resembles the original however. This car pumps out almost 2 times the hp with almost 700 hp. This car is INSANE!!!!! Unfortunately, she is as loose as she was powerful and our time suffered a 8:16.898... but still a full minute faster than the original Miura.
Lap 31.) 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Superlaggera
What happens when you put a Gallardo on Steroids? You get the Superlaggera. This car was simply bigger, better and faster than the original Gallardo. Our time was a blistering 7:58.408 and was only one second behind the Murcielago... not bad, not bad at all.
Lap 32.) 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
Not content on just pumping more juice into the Gallardo; Lamborghini thought; "what if we improved our best car; the Murcielago". Well they did and the car got better. Our time was only one second faster than the original Murcielago; BUT..... and that's a big but.... I did go off track and had a minor spill. Fortunately there was no body damage but it did slow me down by a about 15 seconds or so. It was not the cars fault. This car is simply incredible!
