Yes dear friends, your ever-loving, raging feminazi is leaving you. Destructoid has been a place of great support and opportunity, and has given me a huge boost in the year and a half I've been doing games journalism. Or, you know, JURNALIZM!!
The community has been great (even when it hasn't been), and I've learned a lot. I think I even made a friend or three while I was here. I'd like to think that those of you who talked to me in chat saw me as pretty reasonable, even when we disagreed. And funny. And cute. Or all three. Yeah, I'm fishing for compliments.
If you want to read my final story for Destructoid, you can do so here:
It's all about the ways tabletop roleplaying has made me a better person, and I hope you enjoy it. Games journalists aren't ridding the world of deep and dark evil or curing illnesses, but I think we can still make the world a better place and we can still take our job and responsibilities seriously. If I've made you smile or encouraged you to do something you wouldn't otherwise do that has a positive outcome on your life, then I've done something right and that's enough for me. I certainly hope I have done those things, but I guess I won't know for sure.
Basically what I mean to say is that we're back in junior high and I'm your school counselor, because I'm corny as shit but I honestly believe when I say it: You are special. You are wonderful. Your impact on this world is never insignificant, even if it's just striking up a conversation about a nerdy hobby. Don't ever think you can't make the world a better place or that trying to do so, even in a small way, isn't worth your time. It is. People recognize that. And if they don't? You can be proud of yourself.
Now, while this is my final column FOR Destructoid, I don't think I'll be going anywhere soon, and I don't want you to either. There are great writers here and wonderful personalities, so stay and give them some love. I know I will be. You may even see a community blog or two from me, I don't know. As for me, I'm not even telling you where I'm going; if you want to know, you'll find out. I'm not detracting in any way from Destructoid here, because these men and women have made this place a home for me.
So again, thank you all for the wonderful support you've given me, and even the critiques. I know I'm in a better place because of Destructoid and the community, and you've given this small-town farm girl who was deathly allergic to a social life in school a future she never imagined happening to her. Thanks.
