BoB - Shog played Jazz Jackrabbit 3

If you know me well enough, or if you’ve known me for long enough, you’ve likely heard me say something along the lines of, "Extreme Pinball is by far the best game Epic has ever released.” Then I played the alpha dem...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-14 (Part 2)

Welcome back to A Decade in Review; Shoggy-14! This is the second half of my look at 2014, and it's all positive. If you're interested in reading up on the games I didn't like, and felt ambivelent about, check out my previous entry. It...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-14 (Part 1)

2014 happened, and while it’s true that the Playstation 4 and Xbone have been out for a while it really doesn’t feel like the new console generation has kicked off yet. There were some pretty high-profile games launched on ...

Shog's April 2020 Gaming Journal

As 2020 continues on so too does the global game of plague inc. we’re all being forced to play. Since we’re well and truly into Spring sales are starting to roll out online so my backlog has grown, and will continue to grow...

BoB - Shog-N-G

Ah, to be the fool during the month of April, and depending on which games you’ve played there’s high likelihood that you’ve been made the fool once or twice. A part of me wants to spend several paragraphs just talkin...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-13 (Part 2)

The Bad and Meh lists are covered in Part 1, posted previously, as is a sizeable chunk of the Good list. I'm can't say I'm surprised that this happened, but I'm a little bit proud to see that I've found and smacked against the upper li...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-13 (Part 1)

The year 2013 was a massive one in gaming! The legendarily successful Ouya launched and it was such a massive hit that it was discontinued indefinitely just to give Sony and Microsoft a chance with their own new consoles the Playstatio...

Shog's SMarch 2020 Gaming Journal

So how’s your March going? I don’t want to make light of what’s going on in the world, and when I say that what I mean is that I use comedy to cope and I hope you don’t take offense when I do inevitably make fun...

BoB - Shog likes Jetpacks

Video games are fun, unless they’re not, but for the most part video games are fun! This month’s Band of Bloggers prompt is all about those parts of video games that don’t really make logical sense but which are fun f...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-12

Remember that time the world ended, because Nostradamus and his Mayan friends said it would? That was a pretty wild time but since we live in the timeline with Duke Nukem Forever, we never got to experience that apocalypse. My memories...

Shog's Birthday-Month 2020 Gaming Journal

Happy belated Leap Year! I seem to forget that February is such a short month every year, but even though I got a late start to my monthly blog, I had plenty of time in February to play a ton of games! I even beat a lot more games than...

BoB - Final Fantasy Shogverted my Expectations

I may have mentioned this a few times before, but I’ve been playing Final Fantasy games since I was very young. My first RPG in general was Mystic Quest, I went from that to Final Fantasy Adventure on the Gameboy, Final Fantasy I...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-11

2011 was a really weird time for me, I was living at home with my Mom and siblings, trying to build up enough money to move down south to make a long-distance relationship into a not-at-all long distance relationship. I made it happen ...

Shog's January 2020 Gaming Journal

It’s a whole new year, a whole new decade, MY BIRTHDAY, and 2 Steam sales affected what games I played this month...and realistically, next month too, and the months following that. Anyway, I hope you’ve all had a good New ...

Band of Bloggers February 2020 Theme

It’s the first February of the new year, and even a new decade, but you already knew that if you have access to a calendar or spend time looking at your phones home screen. If you're expecting more of a preamble from me than toug...

BoB - A Shoguary of Antici...

Isn’t that just typical; one day you’re minding your own business, drinking excessively and trying to have a good time when out of nowhere a whole new decade bursts through a wall and punches you inside out. I’m being...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-10

I had this fun idea to do a series of blogs about games from the past decade, one entry per month about one year from 2010 until 2019, where I would talk about either my top and bottom 3 or my top and bottom 5 depending on how many tit...

Shog's December 2019 Gaming Journal

Happy New Year everybody! December is always a busy, busy month for me; not only is there all of the last minute shopping that needs to be done, and people who need to be visited. Not only am I stuck in retail Hell, but I also like to ...

BoB - Shog-Gifted Games

Video games have been a big part of my life for so long that I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have the option to play one. I don’t recall too many holidays or birthdays going by that didn’t involve me getti...

Shog's November 2019 Gaming Journal

November! It's a time for cold weather, family gatherings, rabid consumerism, and that most beautiful of things: transitioning from pumpkin spice to something different. So, while I was enjoying a sweet coffee with butter toffee creame...

BoB - Points of Shogpact

This month’s Band of Bloggers’ prompt is all about impact, but not the usual kind of impact that results in a splattered nazi head, or shattered alien carapice. I’ve been playing video games since I was about three or...

A Shoggy Squint at Death Stranding

Thanks to the amazing, and useful, Zunos app I was able to get my hypothetical hands on a digital-deluxe copy of Death Stranding! I’ve been mildly curious about this game since it was revealed, but as the months stretched on into...

Shog's Halloween 2019 Gaming Journal

This is Halloween, this is Halloween, try not to spend all my money on Steam. This is Halloween, The Outer Worlds isn’t on Steam, so I guess my money is mostly safe in that regard, besides, I have a massive backlog of unplayed ga...

BoB - Unfinished Shog-ness.

My Band of Bloggers prompt this month is all about unfinished business, and boy do I have a wide backlog of games that I’ve started or put a few hours into, but never actually finished playing. By ‘finish’ what I mean...

Band of Bloggers Halloween 2019 Theme

Happy Halloween Destructoid! Band of Bloggers lurches on, on this most harrowing, and frightening times of year. Around every corner lurks monsters, demons, and the ghosts of past failures. The ghost specifically interests me, and has ...

Shog's September 2019 Gaming Journal

I PLAYED A LOT OF GAMES THIS MONTH. That may be a little bit generous though: How this usually works is, I’ll write down the title of a game that I start playing regardless of how long I actually play it. Take Ducktales Remastere...

BoB - Relaxs-shog-sion

I’m having trouble relaxing so I didn’t know if I would be able to contribute to this month’s Band of Bloggers prompt. The stress of working retail combined with car troubles, and building tensions at home has made it...

Shog's August 2019 Gaming Journal

I realize that I probably sound like a Debby-Downer during this time of year but I can’t stress how much I hate summer. August is finally over but it’s not unheard of for September to feature excessively hot and humid days ...

BoB - Shogka-Shoglee

I like the idea of doing a blog about game characters! Really good characters (or even just one great character) can help get me through otherwise mediocre games and I know for a fact that other people feel the same way (insert dispara...

About Shoggoth2588one of us since 6:55 AM on 06.03.2013

Hello all! I'm Joe, from Maryland! I released five days before Enix launched Dragon Quest 3! I started playing games around the time I was 3, with some very early memories of myself playing Duck Hunt in my Dad's office and Golden Axe in an arcade at what might have been an airport (It was a weird memory). I'm mostly harmless so if you wanna talk to me, send me a message. I'll be around, making horrible puns though not quite as horrible as Gus' is able to do. I'll lurk on the Discord too and if you want to be my friend there, than come at me!
