It's alive! It's aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive!
I'm tentatively excited, because it seems like my PS3 has risen from the dead and is functional again. After dicking around with it again last night I noticed that it's abrupt shutdowns seemed to happen when it was trying to make a few reads from the hard drive. Curiosity made me wonder if my PS3 was simply suffering from corrupt file issues, so I booted the PS3 into safe mode, ran a file restore, rebuilt the database, and did two more file restores just for safe measure, and before I knew it my PS3 was running in seemingly perfect health. Still don't wanna give it a full bill of health yet as the issue could still be a dying hard drive. I was relieved as fuck to find out my PS3 wasn't dead, but simply in a coma. Now I need to break the news to my PS3 that he's been asleep for 7 days, his wife has moved on, and he's probably pissed himself.
The bonus result of this is that I'll get to do what I wanted my original debut stream to be - a new game run of Revengeance mode in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
. For those of you who do not know, at the title screen of MGR
you can enter the Konami code and it will unlock all of the game's difficulties for you right away. This means that you can start a completely new game with no upgrades or unlocked moves and jump straight into the hardest difficulties in the game. Translation - this is something made for people who absolutely hate winning.
Revengeance mode is pretty much built around the player being at "new game plus" level upon entering it. Enemies deal fucking crazy
levels of damage, the window for parrying attacks is smaller, the Zandatsu squares (red squares in blade mode) are smaller, and most encounters either have different enemies or additional enemies (or both!). Jumping into Revengeance mode without any new game plus enhancements is borderline suicidal; the amount of damage every enemy does will kill you in either one or two hits and you'll also be missing a few almost essential upgrades.
In short - on this stream I'm going to be dying a lot
so I hope you have patience for seeing a lot of game over screens. I did a brief test run of this a few weeks ago and managed to get decently far into the second mission, so this isn't completely impossible. However I died a fucking ton during it, enough times to make Dark Souls
even blush. My goal for this stream will be to at least make it up to Mistral, which I think is entirely possible, but hopefully under 50 deaths.
In other news, I saw Guardians of the Galaxy
this weekend. As you may have already heard from pretty much everyone else, it's a great time. It's easily in the upper tier of Marvel movies. Not sure if I'd rank it better than Winter Soldier
, but damn I want to see it again.
