Hey guys! It's a big superhero reveal! Just like all great superheroes, I have my alter ego. The catch is that I'm not quite as mild mannered, and I am now revealing my true form as I am now officially Destructoid staff. Oh yes!
What does that mean for those of you accustomed to some of the work I have done before; the cblog reserves, the Commentoid and the MassDebate work?
Well, I know the first step when finding out I'm on the roster is to panic, do some hectic flailing, drink a gallon of milk, play peek-a-boo with your shadow and scream until the screaming in your head stops. These are all perfectly natural reactions, but please try to control them.
For now, when it comes to living large and in charge on the cblogs, it will make no difference. These things will still be things I do, and don't expect them to go anywhere. If I leave them, they will not go abandoned and I will make sure that a suitable heir tends to their needs. I'm not going to dump them in a box and drive off, with a note saying "YOUR PROBLEM NOW! MUHAHAHA?"
What it does mean, is that you're going to see some more razzle-dazzle!
Examples of that being:
- My crazy mug kicking it front page style in features and news!
- More coming soon!
I have carefully checked over the list, and those will be the main differences in what should otherwise remain uninterrupted service.
In the meantime, take some deep breaths, stop nervously tonguing your cyanide-capped tooth and enjoy the forthcoming stuff I will be doing but under my actual, real life name! Gadzooks!
The barrier is down now. The cat is out of the bag. I've not just had this thrust upon me though: I have been discussing this on and off with various members of the Destructoid team for weeks.
Yet, it still feels like a crazy jump to be the other side of the glass. I hope that you will all look on my new move favorably, because I have no intention on letting you guys down.
I've had a rollercoaster few years as the guy in the red monogrammed helmet; dishing out my two cents or making a crazy joke, arguing or doling out opinions all over the comments. Writing a heap of blogs and wondering if they got read. Dropping out of the picture for a few months and wondering if I was missed, then hearing a couple of whispers and rolling back with a squad of comment superstars.
Painstakingly producing a picture contest over several nights that got four entries. Briefly mentioning a phallic resemblance in a Skyrim screenshot that inspires a Sunday front page spectacular. Getting to interview webcomic artists and presidents of societies just by asking real nicely. Starting up a brand new debating series with rave reviews. Writing a choose-your-adventure blog with a bit of elbow grease and a lot of imagination, and feeling such community love for it.
These experiences are still with me, not behind me. You will be looking forward on more on these from me to come. I live for things like these, so don't expect that they'll not still be coming to me.
Nonetheless, it still feels like the end of an era.
So long helmet...
