Yeah, so my gaming time over the last week or so has been spent with Just Cause 2. See, and the clever thing is how the title works TWO WAYS. You're fighting for a JUST CAUSE (well, sorta), but see you're also blowing things up all over the place JUST 'CAUSE. GET IT?
I don't know what's going on here but it's AWESOME I HOPE I DON'T DIE DOING THIS
Ok, seriously, it's a pretty cool game, way better than the first one and, in my opinion, the Mercenaries sequel that I think a lot of people wanted to see in Mercenaries 2 but just didn't get. Yeah, Mercs 2 disappointed me a lot, which I won't go into detail about here, but this game makes up for it in spades.
It's pretty addictive finding towns and bases and trying your damnedest to clear them 100% before getting cut to ribbons by troops you are remotely equipped to handle because you're not really thinking about THAT, you're just thinking about your next target. A lot of people around here and on the mainstream sites have already said loads about the game so I guess I can't add really a whole lot more other than it's easily one of the best open-world, blow-shit-up game I've played probably since Crackdown, even though the game structure is of course different. My only real gripe is that, frankly, there's a few too many small things that you have to blow up to get 100% in some locations. I mean, it's tough finding that certain little generator or small radio tower on a huge air base and you're pulling your hair out at 97% or whatever trying to figure out what the hell you missed.
All of that said, though, I'm sure I can't be the only one whose just a bit MILDLY uncomfortable with these sort of games where they try to set them in some sort of halfway realistic political climate and ethnic location and you're basically running around ruining the lives of hundreds of third-world oppressed people. I mean, I know it's just a game but still..you're basically helping mercs fuck this country up in a billion different ways and shouting WOO-HOO as you send a few more innocent people flying into the air as you blow up their local gas station. It's kind of a weird setting really. The same thing struck me in Far Cry 2 where you're basically in an African shithole town and fucking shit up for a personal grudge while the country goes to complete hell all around you. Maybe I'm just too much of a bleeding heart liberal, but part of me feels just the tiniest bit guilty about it. But then the next pretty explosion makes me forget all about it, I guess.
I do have a question for anyone reading this, though, who is farther in the game than me. Aren't there supposed to be 3 factions? At the beginning of the game it mentioned Reapers, Ular, and Roaches, but I have yet to see a Roach mission or anything like that. Do I have to wait until later in the game?
