Phils Game/Pop Music Similarities - Outtakes #13

   0

Featuring Chrono Cross, old-time pop and more.

Greetings fellow game music lovers,

now that the main part of Chrono Cross (1999) is over, some more outtakes that may not be as good as the main findings but provide some interesting pointers where to look next.

The first outtake is a sequence from the song "People Imprisoned by Destiny" that plays during certain boss fights like against Miguel and Dario:

I suspect this sequence to be originated in 19th century / early 20th century church music. The reason for that is that I discovered a sequence in a song titled "Church Music" from a silent film score collection of 1913 by J. S. Zamecnik called "Sam Fox Moving Picture Music Vol. 1" that has a strong structural similarity to the sequence from Chrono Cross:

The second outtake is from the song "Hydra Swamp" that plays, appropriately, at the Hydra Swamp:

I found some songs mostly from the New Wave and Psychedelic Rock genres that feature beats remarkably similar to the one from Hydra Swamps:

Japan - Adolescent Sex (1978):

J. Geils Band - No Anchovies Please (1980):

Room - No Warmth In My Life (1970):

Country Joe & The Fish - Good Guys/Bad Guys Cheer And The Street Of Your Town (1969):

I think I have some more stuff left for next sunday.

Phil out.
