Featuring The Goonies 2 and the Thompson Twins.
Greetings fellow game music lovers,
with the 35th anniversary of the original Goonies movie approaching, I think it is a good time to have a short look at some of the music the franchise has produced in the domain of video games, with the focus mostly lying on the NES games The Goonies (1986) and The Goonies 2 (1987).
The most prominent tune in the lineup is, of course, the quasi-anthem of the film "The Goonies 'r' Good Enough" which appears in pretty much the same way in the original game and the sequel:

Of course, this wouldn't be a true finding if it only consisted of stuff people knew years ago, probably when they first played the game after watching the movie, right? So the true focus of this article is a certain song that plays in the sequel, Goonies 2, in a certain area of the map, mostly referred to as "The Cellar":
One might consider this a remix of the original Goonies theme due to the similar synthesizer-laden style. I would like to present an alternative to that. This is the song "Day After Day" by the synth pop trio "Thompson Twins" from 1984:
Was the Goonies soundtrack ever released in the meantime? I have to check again at some point...
