Phils Game Music Similarities #36 - Mountain Melodies Of Life

   0

Greetings fellow game music lovers,

since we already had several entries about Nobuo Uematsu, it seems kind of fair that we have a look at Squares other great composer: Yasunori Mitsuda who attained fame by composing the soundtracks of Xenogears and the Chrono series.

Today's topic is the song "Life" of the second ( or third, if you count Radical Dreamers ) game in the series "Chrono Cross" (PSX, 1999). It features a prominent seven-notes sample that is played by floating rocks in the Dragon Tower dungeon which some people think is based of the Schala-theme of the original game. It has heavy plot significance, so I shall restrain myself from explaining its history too much:

There is a, I think, pretty similar note sequence in the 1987 song "Mountain Men" by the well-known progressive rock band Jethro Tull:

Will they ever make another Chrono game? It's hard to imagine since making new series in time travel games unavoidably mess up everything you achieved in the predecessor (see Legacy of Kain series).

Phil out of time.
