I am a person that never buys games at full price if I donít have to. I will trade other games or wait for sales because 60 buckaroos is quite a lot for one game. I thought $50 was bad when I was a kid, but I understand that they cost much more to make than in the good old SNES days. All things considered, to be a gamer in this day of age will cost you a good bit of money. So why do I find the Kinect price damn near outrageous.
I know that Kinect has some good hardware inside of it, but I donít think itís appropriate or wise to price it so high. Now will $150 break the bank? No it will not, but for a peripheral, itís damn expensive. Thatís what this is, a peripheral. Now I know that there were some of those in the 80ís that cost near $300, but they were usually made by third party companies trying to fool the customer into paying too much for something that wasnít worth the money. Remember that thing you stood on with the ball in the middle of it?
I have this sinking feeling that Microsoft is heading into Power Glove territory, and remember how that ended. I mean I would love this thing to blow up in Microsoftís faces since they have been so smug about it. Like Sony before the PS3 came outÖremember that? When they incredibly over priced their console. And I canít help wanting to tell Microsoft to look at the Wii Fit. The Wii Fit bundle still sells for $100, and theyíve sold a shit ton. I feel they are thinking ďWeíre Microsoft, we make Xbox, people will pay it.Ē *Cough Sony cough PS3 cough*
Lastly letís also think about how we are in a RECESSION. The video game industry has seen decreases in sales for the past two years, but Microsoft is going to sell a peripheral for more than a $100 price point. Not smart.
Was I going to buy a Kinect, I donít really know. Itís strange. With that $150 price point and no A list game to back it up, I think HELL NO. However if it was only $100 I would think about it. Weird what a difference $50 can make.
