Good morning Destructoid! It's that wonderful time of the week! It's Friday!
I'm sure some of you have noticed that myself and a few other new faces have transitioned over to Destructoid from another site, Selectstarters. We were a very close, friendly gaming community that decided to make the move as the new site was unfortunately not working out and our numbers were dwindling. I noticed how big and close the Destructoid community was so we decided to make this our new home and we're loving it already. A massive thank you to the whole community for making us feel so welcome! Our Friday TGIF thread was a tradition we kept going over at Select Start for over 5 years, so I really wanted to keep it going here as I thought it would be a great fit. Here, we honestly just talk about how our week went, our weekend plans and what exactly we've been up to. What are we watching, reading, playing. All that stuff. Hope you enjoy!
Before I begin, a little about myself. I work in a hospital in the scorching hot desert of Arizona. Doing so in the middle of a pandemic has been an experience to say the least. I grew up gaming with the NES and Sega Genesis. So to this day, I'm blown away by the massive leaps the gaming industry has made all around. I still love going back and playing the older gems as they help me better appreciate the great games that are being released today. RPGs of any kind will forever be my favorite, but I also love 1st and 3rd person shooters, platformers, action adventure, racing, really all sorts of games. Other then sports unless it involves skateboarding or MMA. That said, I'm also big into music and a bit obsessed with MMA. I like my music on the heavier side mostly but to balance it out, I'm a massive nerd for relaxing gaming music. I LOVE video game soundtracks and have a big list of favorites. That's enough about boring old me.
My week was pretty good. It went really quick actually and I was able to get a lot caught up at work. I primarily deal with patients that have been admitted to the hospital as an outpatient or inpatient but I get pulled to cover in the ER, outpatient or OB all the time as well. With the current state of the world, the number of admitted patients has gone UP. What makes it more challenging is that I can't physically go into some of the rooms as the patients are isolated due to Covid. Makes my job a lot more difficult but I'm definitely not the only one facing these issues so I just deal with it and do the best I can.
I'm off today and not so patiently waiting for EA's UFC 4 to arrive at my door. Loved the 3rd game so I'm really excited to see the career mode improvements they've made with this release. Later once the gf gets off work, I'm going to take her to a smooth, long pathway near a park so she can practice her rollerskating some more. It's off to the side and never busy, so we can safely keep our distance from others. She's just learning how to skate and is trying to get her balance. I'll be on my skateboard next to her trying to give advice and to just show support. It's nice to get out of the house for a bit since we've been stuck inside due to the pandemic.
