We all know that 2011 was an amazing year for video games; there were so many highly anticipated games coming out gamers barely even knew where to throw their money next! Will 2012 be as good? Here are my predictions about some of the games coming out this year.
Final Fantasy 13-2
I am a huge Final Fantasy fan, but I would be lying if I said that the past few iterations weren't.. well.. let's just say they didn't really live up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate
Final Fantasy 13, it just wasn't top of my list by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, did this game really deserve a sequel?
Japanese gamers have been understandably nervous, with only 525,271 copies sold in it's first four days, 1/3 of the sales of its predecessor Final Fantasy 13. I have seen some footage of the Japanese version of the game, and it definitely follows the stylings of Final Fantasy 13. Square is boasting that the Battle System is evolved, however from all the game footage I've seen (a good video can be found here http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/final-fantasy-13-2-active-battle-system-trailer
), it looks exactly the same, except they have added in every gamer's favourite feature.. Quick Time Events.
This game looks like it is more of the same for the Final Fantasy 13 franchise so if you enjoyed Final Fantasy 13, it seems like you would enjoy this.
Personally, this is a pass for me. I enjoyed Final Fantasy 13, but not enough to warrant a purchase of the sequel, and, perhaps more importantly, I just don't trust Square Enix to put out a good Final Fantasy product anymore.
My prediction for Final Fantasy 13-2 is that the North American sales will be quite slow. I just don't think this is the game longtime Final Fantasy fans want.
Mass Effect 3
OH. MY. GOD. I LOVE this franchise, and I cannot wait until this game is out. This is definitely one of my most anticipated games of the year, and I eagerly look forward to more adventures with Commander Shepard. I have purposely been avoiding all game footage so as not to spoil the experience for myself, but I believe Bioware has learned from the Dragon Age II debacle, and won't disappoint gamers with another substandard sequel.
I will admit, the whole Origin thing has me a bit spooked, and while I think it's silly of EA to attempt to compete with Steam, I will still be buying Mass Effect 3. Also, I can't wait to get freaky with Kaidan again.
I predict huge sales of this game, with most gamers I know salivating at the mere mention of the continuation of this franchise, and I believe (and hope) that Bioware will deliver us a great game.
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
This is a game you may not have heard of, but one that I am very excited about. Ni No Kuni was made by Studio Ghibli (yes, THAT studio Ghibli, of Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky Fame) and it seems like they have really hit a home run with this one. I have been watching a fellow Twitch.tv caster doing a playthrough of the Japanese version, and I can tell you, the game looks fantastic. It truly looks like you're playing a Studio Ghibli movie. The battle system is very pokemon-esque, with the main character capturing creatures, leveling them up, and even evolving them to use in battle. The music in the game is just stunning, and most of the game is voiced over. Did I mention the game is gorgeous? Check out a screenshot below of the world map, it's just beautiful!!
From what I've seen of the story so far it is quite linear, but there are definitely sidequests that you need to complete in order to progress through the story. The English localization is said to come stateside in Q1 of 2012, and I can promise you I will be first in line!
I'm unsure how well this game will sell, the Studio Ghibli name carries a lot of weight, even in North America, but from what I've seen, the game is relatively unknown. With some clever marketing I could see this game selling really well, and I predict those of your smart enough to buy it will be incredibly pleased!

Overall I think it's going to be another great year for gamers. While we perhaps don't have the quantity of games coming out this year, there are definitely some GREAT games coming out that will be sure to satisfy.
