LONG BLOG

The last Cblogs of 12/19 and Striderisms?

   0

First, sorry about the delays on the mysterious episode 8 of the Fapcast. It's the Christmas week countdown, what did you expect? I'm busy! In fact, I guess it's a requirement that Recappers be busy. How often do you see Wrench blog on his actual blog? Or Smurf? Or bbain? Or Phil? (Well, I think Phil's internet is down, so he has an excuse.)

Case in point, I haven't blogged in a while. I mean, actually blogged. Thank god for being a recapper and obligations. Speaking of which, we touch on it on the Fapcast but I might as well mention now in case I'm super late in getting it out: We're looking for a new Recapper.

In a super-secret correspondence that will be public as soon as I publish Fapcast 8 (HA!), ManChild has put himself on hiatus for unspecified but assumably personal reasons. So that means we need a Recapper as long as ManChild is down for the count and by Recapper, we mean someone with guaranteed availability. You're not gonna be a Reservist. You're gonna shoot straight to regular Recapper and hit the ground into a bloody skid mark. So what do we need? Just your time and availability and that's about it. Recapping is a relatively low commitment deal. You just need to be sure you set aside a portion of your night to read through your day's blogs, get the gist of them, share them, and put your thoughts down if you have any. It takes most of us about one or two hours depending on the volume of blogs on what you want to put into your isms or gasms.

So if you're interested, PM your nearest Recapper with your expressed interest. Me (StriderHoang) and ScottyG mention ourselves in the Fapcast, but if you want, you can also PM whoever's actively Recapping the day you think of it like Wrench, bbain, or Smurf for example. Tell us you're interested, and we'll run your name through our complicated machine that will determine whether or not we'll take you on. It's called, a hat. We'll put your name on a scrap of paper, put it in, shake it around, and pick one out at random. TECHNOLOGY!

Meanwhile, on the front of my new 3DS, I've finally managed to get my hands on proper 3DS software. I just downloaded 3d Adventures: Kirby's Adventure, which takes your basic Kirby formula and makes a pretty box of it, and Crashmo, sequel to Pushmo.

I've always heard good things of Pushmo, but never knew that when people talked of it that it was a 3DS downloadable. But now I know that it's a great puzzle game. Pull, slide, and push towers of blocks in an attempt to get to the top. But things aren't always as they seem as you tackle the tower. Blocks will fall, gadgets will introduce weird paths, and puzzles can stop cold with the wrong drops. But it's all in a shiny, colorful package topped off with a cute little sumo dude. And come Saturday, I'll let my girlfriend give the game a shot since we all know she's a puzzle fanatic.

So we all know Ace Attorney 5 is a thing and that it'll be a 3DS game (thank god). I know I'm all over that stuff, but what else should I get? I'm a year behind this 3DS stuff, so I don't know where to begin. Mario 3D Land? Mario Kart 7? Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D? I'm getting Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition off a trade on the forums and Ocarina of Time 3D for Christmas but is there anything else I should know about?

Seriously, I love getting tags for my Mii Plaza and catching up on my Find Mii hat collecting but I gotta actually, you know, play games on my 3DS.

Also, don't visit terriblefate.com. No seriously. You will begin to believe if you visit it.

* - Give the No Named Man your input. While finding ways to like characters outside finding them relatable is only one view, there are people who bat around the term relatable too much

V - Tobbi's video award of the worst 2012 had to offer

A - Settings, and why Klarden has trouble caring about some of them

P - Binary Chode and the curious case of episode twosomes

A - Blast73's remarks on the whole War Z shenani-bananas

S - Mario Kart is about bringing people together and that's why it's on Marcunio's 12 days of Christmas list

A - Snealiv's War Z concept box art is uninspired and that's the joke

Villains that did nothing wrong

Villains in all media, not just video games, can end up being a dime a dozen. Far too often, a villain's motives boil down to "I am a bad, and so I do bad things. Fear me." While this format has worked for countless stories, at this point in my life (the ripe old age of 20) I’ve become jaded and grumpy, finding myself rolling my eyes when I see yet another antagonist wreaking havoc with no background or reasoning presented as to why they’re being such a butthole.

What’s far more interesting to me is when a villain’s motives or actions come across as justified, perhaps leaving you rooting for them to defeat the protagonist [insert Elder God Tier villain meme here].

My favorite example of this would be Meruem from the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter. While he doesn’t necessarily fit the exact mold I laid out above, he’s easily one of the most dynamic and curious villains I’ve ever come across. For the sake of not spoiling what is perhaps one of the most exciting, action-packed, and tear-inducing arcs in anime history, I won’t delve into the details of what makes Meruem so great. Instead I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Hunter x Hunter to set aside some time and plow through the series. Really, it’s that good.

But hey, that’s just how I feel. I’m sure there are folks out there who prefer their villains to be simple. If I ever met one of these theoretical people I might have a panic attack, but I’ll deal with that should the time come. I’m sure after some deep breaths we would get along. Maybe we could even snuggle, should my husband allow such an event to transpire.

All said and done, we arrive at the topic of this month’s Bloggers Wanted: Villains that did nothing wrong. Due to communication errors, this entry in the hallowed halls of Bloggers Wanted is a tad late. Regardless, all you have to do is head over to the Community Blog section of the site, and whip up a Cblog about a villain who you feel was secretly the good guy all along.
