LONG BLOG

The Cblog Fapcast Episode 3 - ScottyG is on the hotline

   0

One of these days, I'll be 100% satisfied with how the podcast turns out. For now, everything is cool, except that I decided to use my laptop's stock mic and I forgot to turn off my laptop's base fan, which turns up on my side. Regardless, I think we're really dialing it in for the Fapcast, don't you?

Get in on it here!

In this episode...

Strider, Wrench, and Smurf talk Miami Hotline with the illusive ScottyG. Plus, Elsa's blog about sexism starts a discussion, the formality of failing friends, and technical difficulties!

Like what you hear? If you're interested in a guest spot, be sure to follow our podcast's twitter! Send us questions if you have any! Or suggest blogs or news you think is notable for us to cap!

~ What is the Cblog Fapcast?

Skip. We've gone over this. Ok, well, it's a podcast much like Communitoid, but since it's by the Recap team, it's about what pertains to the Recappers; the Cblogs. We're a community podcast that half talks about today's games and for the other half, talks about the cblogs of the week! Think of it as my old Write Stuff feature!

~ Who hosts the Cblog Fapcast?

I'm the host and creator, so most episodes will have me in it. The other Recappers will also appear when time allows for them to help out!

~ Will the Fapcast be on iTunes?

I wish! But have you seen web hosting costs? Like I said, this is a community podcast, and by investing myself as a community member, I'd prefer not to spend more money than I already do on just myself. We are currently looking into hosting on podbean! That is until ScottyG actually drops me actual hints on what hosting he's sitting on.

~ How often will the Fapcast update?

I want to do it weekly, recording every Saturday, sometimes Friday.

~ Will you talk about my blog?

We're a community run podcast about your blogs. If there's anything of note about it, somebody will probably bring it up. We discuss our topsauces, our fails, and everything in the gray that is worth mentioning yet not worth branding as the top or the bottom. I'm already seeing something I want to talk about and it's neither topsauce nor fail!

~ Obligitory twitter plug

Why that's right! We (and by we, I mean I) have started a twitter! Mostly for the Fapcast and yet confusingly named as if it's for recaps in general. If you have any other questions, concerns, suggestions, or ideas, please kindly shove it! send them to @CblogFapcast! You can suggest cblogs for us to look at and maybe discuss, cold openings (that's the intro peeps), break clips (I'm looking to stick with kitchy nostalgia commercials), and ending themes! I might stick with our current opening theme but if anyone has a suggestion that just blows it out of the water, go ahead and fuck yourself send it in!

~ I'm in desperate need of a tl;dr!

Go here to download it! Go here to send in your ideas! Go here to support our community! Hope you enjoy it! One love and other such Bob Marley references!

Crowdfunded

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
