LONG BLOG

Introducing the Cblog Fapcast! Episode 1 - XCOM or bust!

   0

Updated with new file host

Officially introducing the Dtoid Cblog Fapcast! A community podcast for the community blogs by us, the Cblog Recaps team! We talk about your blogs, but also video games! That's not our tagline though.

Spawned from my burning jealously of, "I can do that!", the Cblog Fapcast is an attempt to put the spotlight on the cblog community and who better to do that than the people who sit down and read the damn things? Here's everything you need to know about the Fapcast and my deranged need for self-validation on creative endeavors!

In this episode...

Strider (that's me), Phil, and Wrench get together and figure out how these darn podcasts work! Wrench prods me before the show even starts to talk about what games we've been playing as a veiled excuse to talk about XCOM for the majority of the first segment. Then into the second half, we talk about Robocop Vs. Terminator, compression socks, meta-emotions on gaming, FTL, and... shit! More XCOM? Goddammit Wrench!

~ What is the Cblog Fapcast?

Skip. We've gone over this. Ok, well, it's a podcast much like Communitoid, but since it's by the Recap team, it's about what pertains to the Recappers; the Cblogs. We're a community podcast though, so there's no guarantee we'll stay on topic.

~ Who hosts the Cblog Fapcast?

I'm the host and creator, so most episodes will have me in it. The inaugural episode has PHILK3NS3BB3N (seriously, hard to spell), and Wrenchfarm. The other Recappers have an interest on jumping on but not the time but they will appear on future episodes.

~ Will the Fapcast be on iTunes?

I wish! But have you seen web hosting costs? Like I said, this is a community podcast, and by investing myself as a community member, I'd prefer not to spend more money than I already do on just myself. For now, I'm hosting the file on my own Dropbox account which is linked above as well. In the future, especially if we get some help from people who know what they're doing, we can get the podcast hosted someplace where iTunes can accept our submission. For now, let's just call the podcast an indie thing.

~ How often will the Fapcast update?

I want to do it weekly, recording every Saturday. Honestly, I'm not sure if I've run that question across the Recappers yet. I just need to say right now that I want it to be weekly and yet I can't record in our second week due to previous engagements. MONKEY FEATHERS!

~ Will you talk about my blog?

We're a community run podcast about your blogs. If there's anything of note about it, somebody will probably bring it up. We discuss our topsauces, our fails, and everything in the gray that is worth mentioning yet not worth branding as the top or the bottom. I'm already seeing something I want to talk about and it's neither topsauce nor fail!

~ Obligitory twitter plug

Why that's right! We (and by we, I mean I) have started a twitter! Mostly for the Fapcast and yet confusingly named as if it's for recaps in general. If you have any other questions, concerns, suggestions, or ideas, please kindly shove it! send them to @CblogFapcast! You can suggest cblogs for us to look at and maybe discuss, cold openings (that's the intro peeps), break clips (I'm looking to stick with kitchy nostalgia commercials), and ending themes! I might stick with our current opening theme but if anyone has a suggestion that just blows it out of the water, go ahead and fuck yourself send it in!

~ I'm in desperate need of a tl;dr!

Go here to download it! Go here to send in your ideas! Go here to support our community! Hope you enjoy it! One love and other such Bob Marley references!

Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
